And E.R. has died on Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The official cause was heart failure. A family spokesman said he had been ill for some time.
He was married four times. He was the son of a clothing designer, and he attended school in Brooklyn and went to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
He launched his acting career with a small role in the 1961 Broadway production of “Night of the Iguana.” He is survived by two sons, David and Saverio.
