Empire’s Jussie Smollett, Who Plays Gay Part Comes Out As Gay

Jussie Smollett reveals he is gay and has never been a closet. The star from the musical soap opera Empire as (Jamal Lyon) portrays the part of Lucious and Cookie’s gay son Jamal on the show has spoke about his sexuality during a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres. The child star from The Mighty Ducks and North appeared on the show and when asked questions about his personal life he ignored them, however he did feel as if he had to clarify things with DeGeneres so what he did was give her a visit in her green room at the finish of the interview, he talked more about his sexuality.

He said:

“It was really important to me to make sure that it got across that there is no closet. I don’t own a closet, I got a dresser, but I don’t have a closet, but I have a home and that is my responsibility to protect that home… So that’s why I choose not to talk about my personal life.

“But there is without a doubt, no closet that I’ve ever been in, and I just wanted to make that clear, but it was most important for me to make that clear to you on your show at this time in the world. And that’s where I’m at. …”

DeGeneres responded:

“There are questions out there so I think that’s why it was my responsibility to at least give you the opportunity. And I am so proud of you that you say there is no closet there never has been a closet. You’ve never pretending to be anything that you aren’t.”

Smollet added:

“So, let’s not read into it in the wrong way when I say that I don’t talk about my personal life, I’m saying that. But it is in no way to hide or deny who God made me. You know? My mama knows. My mama likes me a lot. And, yes, I take her to the Sound of Music sing-along every single year. So, any questions? But honestly, we’re human and we love and we do all that good stuff. So I’m honored for this opportunity and I’m honored to be here with you.”

Questions surrounding Smollet’s sexuality emerged after his “Empire” co-star Malik Yoba outed him during an interview with BlackFilm.com. Yoba later said his comments were misquoted.

Smollett has also kept his private life to himself and refused to discuss his sexuality in previous interviews.
