Tom Hiddleston is set to play Hank Williams. He is an English actor and he has played the roles of Loki in the Marvel Studios films Thor, The Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World, War Horse, The Deep Blue Sea and now he will portray the legendary Country singer Williams in a new biopic called I Saw the Light, which is set to arrive in 2015.
The film will be based on Colin Escott, George Merritt and William MacEwen’s 1994 book, Hank Williams: The Biography. Director Marc Abraham adapted the screenplay himself and he aims to begin shooting in Louisiana this October.
When Hank Williams died of heart failure, aged 29, in 1953. His body was found in the back of a car with some empty beer cans and an unfinished song lyric. This is the stuff of country legend and Williams has long been a subject of fascination for film makers.
Williams sang some of the biggest hits in history, and singer Bob Dylan once said:
“I started writing songs after I heard Hank Williams.”
Some of his most popular songs are, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, I Can’t Help It (If I’m till in Love with You), Hey, Good Lookin, Jambalaya (On the Bayou), (I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle, You Win Again and Your Cheatin’ Heart.
Thirty one year old Hiddleston,will not only learn Williams’s Alabama accent but will master his music, too,
Deadline reports that producers have secured the rights to several Williams songs, including Your Cheatin’ Heart.
Hiddleston has posted a photograph of himself as Williams, posing with hat, cowboy boots and acoustic guitar.
