Mary Ann Mobley has died. She is a former Miss America (1959) was seventy seven years old and she lost her battle with breast cancer on Monday. The star was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, U.S. and her career expanded from Broadway in the musical Nowhere To Go But Up and Co starring in Guys And Dolls alongside fellow Mississipian Elvis Presley in Girl Happy and Harem Scarum at MGM.
During her television career she starred in General Hospital, The Love Boat, Match Game ’76 and more.
She also became a filmmaker, producing documentaries in third-world countries including Cambodia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Somalia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and the Sudan, focused on the plight of homeless and starving children.
Mobley and the late television host Gary Collins were married. He passed away in 2012. They had a daughter together, Mary Clancy Collins.
In an interview with a scuba diving magazine, Mobley described herself as an,
“avid diver” who held certification as a scuba diver.
