Casey Kasem has passed away. The legendary disc jockey and radio personality, well known for for being the host of the music radio programs American Top 40, American Top 20 and American Top 10 has sadly at the age of eight two. Just this morning his daughter Kerri wrote to the Casey Kasem Facebook page
“Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends. Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad.”
Casey (Kemal Amin Kasem) was born in Detroit in 1932 and in his late teens he had been drafted to serve in Korea and during that stay he had earned himself a local Army radio station position as a radio host. He also did voiceovers, but his most recognized one was as Shaggy from “Scooby Doo Where Are You?”, others were
Batman’s sidekick Robin, Battle of the Planets, Cliffjumper and the original Transformers. He also had small parts in the original Hawaii Five-O, Saved by the Bell, and Columbo. In 1991 he was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1991.
In last couple of years he had some health problems, but most recently Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. He leaves behind his four children, Kerri, Mike, Liberty and Julie.
