‘Breaking Bad’ Actress Emily Rios Talks ‘Coming Out’

Emily Rios has opened up about her sexuality. In her career she has done some acting and modeling, and she is known fro her role as Andrea Cantillo on the series Breaking Bad and she has reportedly ‘come out’ as a lesbian. An in a new interview with AfterEllen.com, The actress says that it had been part of her own experience that anded the writers of her show, which is called The Bridge to get the part right of the love life of her character, reporter Adrianna Mendez, who just happens to be also gay. She says,

“I’m gay, personally, so being Mexican and a lesbian – this is why I love the character because I deal with the same type of things with my own family…

“They (writers) have an idea or they want to have an idea of what really happens behind the scenes… I try to tell them, ‘Listen, this is not how it happens. We are not this way’.

“I want it to be an incidental thing, which is what happens in our everyday life… I wanted to make sure the whole lesbian aspect wasn’t this whole coming out story, and the character wasn’t going to be made more flamboyant in any sort of way.”

Rios, also said that her news to her family was no easy, they accepted it just fine.

She explains,

“Mexican-Americans especially – because this generation, we come into America, and your family wants to be proud… My mum didn’t want me to live a difficult life. She brought me here for a better one, so she’s like, ‘You’re coming out… I want you to be comfortable.’”
