Joy Behar is set to leave The View following a sixteen year run. The comedienne and Co-host will be exiting the ABC Talk Show. She has been part of the all female panel since 1997 when it did premiere. The seventy year old wants to take her career now in a new direction.
She tells Deadline.com,
“It seemed like the right time. You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do – I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my stand-up.”
A statement from executives at ABC reads,
“Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter.”
This news allegedly comes just a few weeks after reports did suggest that Behar was in negotiations to host her own programmed, she fueled the alleged rumours by adding,
“I do like talk shows, I’m interested in talking to people. I want to do an intelligent talk show where you have room to breathe.”
She had also hosted The Joy Behar Show on HLNfrom 2009 to 2011. Her new show on Current TV, Joy Behar: Say Anything! had debut in 2012.
