Jeff Hannerman has died at the age of forty nine. The Slayer guitarist for the metal thrash band of three decades lost his life today in Southern, California from liver failure. Back in 2011 he had contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease that doctors believed might have been caused by a spider bite, at that time he almost lost his arm.
Hannerman had also performed on every Slayer release to date, and wrote many of the band’s career-defining songs, including “Angel of Death,” “South of Heaven,” “Raining Blood” and “War Ensemble.”
Hanneman’s had a final appearance with Slayer with a surprise cameo during an encore of the Big Four Festival in Indio, California, on April 23rd, 2011.
