Helena Bonham Carter: It’s time for me to take a break from acting. The English actress who made her career debut in Lady Jane and moving onto Dark Shadows and Planet of the Apes is going ahead with her plan to leave the acting world behind to give the needed support to her boyfriends, Tim Burton and their two children.
She has gone through allot to keep her love for him alive that they also live in interconnected houses decorated to each one’s taste. The forty six year old star is to quit acting to support the fifty four year old director.
“Juggling motherhood with acting is hard and I’m dropping all the balls at the same time,” she tellsMandrake at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, at the May Fair Hotel. “You always feel like you’re doing everything badly.”
The couple do live with their two children, Billy, who is ten years old and six year old Neil, and a Nanny in three converted former artist’s studios in north London.
“Tim’s taking time out now, and I think I’ll do the same,” she says. “We’re trying to be parents, which is harder than anything else.”
The couple met on set of the Planet of Apes,
“Don’t get me wrong, but I just had this instinct, well, you were the first person I thought of to play a chimpanzee,” he told her, sweetly. The couple could use their break to get married. “We might do it,” Bonham Carter said last year. “It’s the organization. I can’t invite the world, that’s the thing – how do you not offend?”
The actress said their children, who have Burton’s surname, pester their parents to tie the knot.
“Billy was the one who was worried,” she said. “Nell wants a dress. He thought, ‘Are you part of our family?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ And then he said, ‘You were married, [what about] the wedding photo?
“And of course it was a photo of me in costume for Sweeney Todd, where Tim and I were just playing around, and he thought that was our wedding photo.”
