Chris O’Dowd loves his Irish accent. The Irish actor and comedian known for his role in the Channel 4 comedy The IT Crowd thinks his Irish voice just maybe his secret weapon for Hollywood, and he really would like not to loose it.
The also Bridesmaid star was once mocked for his thick accent and it surprised him that he even received comedy roles, but does have some hope that it will charm the ladies. He mused:
”I remember when I first went to university in Dublin, because I’m a country boy I used to get teased for my country accent, so the idea that it’s playing well in Hollywood I find to be funny.
”I think I’m going to keep my Irish accent forever now in any movie I make, because chicks dig it and that’s all I care about now! Now that I’ve been in a romantic comedy like ‘Bridesmaids’, I just want to impress women!”
The thirty three year old had also let it out that his parents do expected ”very little” of him and he has made a name for himself, even though he dropped of drama school.
”I was the youngest in a long line of underachievers so there was no expectation and when I dropped out of college and then dropped out of drama school, no one really batted an eyelid. They were like, yeah of course you did, that is what we do. No, but seriously, they were very supportive.”
