Philip Chevron has died. The Celtic punk star and former The Pogues star lost his fight against Cancer at the age of fifty six on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Six years ago the guitarist was diagnosed with the throat cancer six years ago. He also had a form of head and neck cancer.
He had written some of the band’s biggest hits, which include one of their favorites, Thousands are Sailing. His last appearance had been made in August 2013, at a testimonial, during which author Roddy Doyle, Paul Brady, Gavin Friday and The Pogues frontman Shane MACGowan paid tribute to Chevron.
The musician was given an all clear of health in April, 2012, however a new inoperable tumour did appear later that year.
