Annette Funicello has died. Known for one of the original Mouseketeer’s was seventy years old, the news came officially from Disney’s official fan club Twitter. She was also very popular in the sixties, she appeared in ‘Beach party’ and ‘Beach Blanket Bingo.’
Funicello reportedly was in the hospital in Bakersfield due to complications from multiple sclerosis and had been in a coma for years. In 2004 she she lost the ability to walk and in 2009 she longer was able to speak. She also needed needed round-the-clock care.
Beginning her professional career as a child performer at the age of twelve, Funicello rose to prominence as one of the most popular “Mouseketeers” on the original Mickey Mouse Club. As a teenager, she transitioned to a successful career as a singer with the pop singles “Tall Paul” and “Pineapple Princess”, as well as establishing herself as a film actress, popularizing the successful “Beach Party” genre alongside co-star Frankie Avalon during the mid-1960s.
