The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Based on the 1900 children’s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank, is about to be restored once again just in time for its seventy five anniversary in the year 2014.
Warner Brothers Home Video now owns the rights to the film. In a statement, Jeff Baker, head of the theatrical catalog for Warner’s, said
”We expect 90-95 percent consumer awareness, with a kickoff event consistent with only a handful of titles that are considered the crown jewels of our library.”
And it was not clear whether Warner’s will relaunch the film theatrically or whether the release will be limited to home video.
