‘The Platters’ Singer Herb Reed Had Died At Eighty Three (1958 Video)

The Platters’ Herb Reed has died at the age of eighty three. He was one of the last founding members of the 1950‘s R & B groups. The ‘Smoke Gets in Your Eyes’ has passed away on Monday in Boston, this according to his manager.

 He had a period of declining health which included chronic heart disease. Reed had lived in the Boston area for many years, most recently Arlington, Massachusetts. The group included female vocalist Zola Taylor in addition to Reed, David Lynch, Tony Williams and Paul Robi.

Two of the Platters’ recordings,

 ”The Great Pretender” and “Only You (And You Alone)” are in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
