Idris Elba, featured in the June 2012 issue of British GQ! Elba is a English television, theater, and film actor, known for one of his first roles in the soap opera Family Affairs. He was also seen in Ultraviolet, The Wire and the sitcom The Office.
In the issue Idris talks playing Nelson Mandela in the biopic Long Walk to Freedom:
“That is a lot of responsibility. It’s like being asked to play Jesus.”
He also talks film vs. TV roles:
“Film is the ultimate goal in an actor’s career. I mean, I still love TV. The last two years feel like a reinvention of my career. I’m not a household name, by any stretch. In some countries no one knows who Idris Elba is.”
He also talks plays James Bond:
“It’s one of the most coveted roles in film. Anyone would dream of it. I’d be honored but I don’t think it will actually happen. I’m just happy with the idea of being associated with it.”
His new film Prometheus releases June 6.
