American actress and singer Selena Gomez is named in a one million dollar lawsuit, a Band does say she took her song chorus. The lawsuit is claiming that her 2010 song ‘A Year Without Rain’ does feature chorus that’s,
“virtually identical” to the band Luce’s 2005 track “Buy A Dog.”
The plaintiffs are four songwriters — Tom Luce, Brian Kroll, Matt Blackett and Lawrence Riggs — who allege that Gomez and her band (The Scene) had taken the Luce song’s chorus for “A Year Without Rain,” which became the title track of Gomez’s second studio album. Also do included as Co-defendants are Co-writers Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad.
According to Courthouse News Service, Luce says that,
“Buy A Dog” had enormous airplay on Sirius/XM radio and other outlets in 2005, and that “the melodies in the chorus of both songs are virtually identical.”
The plaintiffs declare that Gomez and her Co-defendants are infringing on their copyright.
