American film director and producer Michael Bay to be part of the ‘Treasure Island’ pirate prequel. He is to work with Starz on the new drama.the cable network has ordered eight episode of the adventure series Black Sails.
The series, which is a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson‘s novel Treasure Island – will focus on the pirate Captain Flint and his crew. Flint and his new recruit John Silver will be seen fighting for the survival of “criminal haven” and “debauched paradise” New Providence Island.
“Starz is excited to be working with a visionary like Michael,’” said Starz chief Chris Albrecht.
“Along with the high-octane action that is a hallmark of a Michael Bay production, [Black Sails] has the elements that Starz originals are striving to bring to the premium landscape – epic, larger than life, cinematic storytelling.”
Black Sails was created by Jon Steinberg (Jericho, Human Target) and will be co-executive produced by Robert Levine (Touch). Production will begin in Cape Town, South Africa later this year for to come out sometime in 2014.
