Cheers star ‘George Wendt ’has been hospitalized over chest pains. The star who plays ‘Norm Peterson’ on the television show had to be leave the cast of a production of ‘The Odd Couple’ which is a play originally by Neil Simon and the plot is about two mismatched roommates, one who was neat and uptight, the other one was easygoing and slovenly, in Chicago.
At this time the actor is getting the medical attention in which he needs and it seems he will make a full recovery. Timothy Evans, who is the executive director of the Northlight Theatre, tells the Chicago Tribune.
The sixty four year had checked himself in the hospital on Sunday. He was set to play Oscar Madison in the stage production which is to start November 9, 2012.
“George is family to us at Northlight and we wish him well for a complete and speedy recovery,” Odd Couple director B.J. Jones tells the Chicago Sun-Times. “He will be missed in the rehearsal room and on stage”.
Wendt is a Chicago native, his maternal grandfather was a photographer and he is of German and Irish descent. and he had been seen as Santa in ‘Elf the Musical’while on Broadway .
He guest starred in the television series ‘Hot in Cleveland, the T.V. series Taxi, Hairspray and M*A*S*H. Man of the House, Columbo and Outside Providence.
He also played Michael Jackson’ father in his music video, Black or White. Following his much success he starred in the short lived ‘The George Wendt Show.
