American singer, songwriter, and pianist Aretha Franklin to be honored as a music icon. The ‘Queen of Soul’ will be a recipient of the year’s TV Land Music Icon Award, reports Billboard.
“It is indeed an honor and a pleasure to receive the icon award. Professionally, it’s wonderful,” Franklin said shortly after receiving the honor during the show’s taping on April 14. The awards ceremony will air Sunday, April 29 and will show Franklin being serenaded by John Legend. Franklin also takes the stage to sing a few of her best hits including “Chain of Fools” and “Respect.”
Although Franklin is not yet finished making music, she had revealed that she is in the works of a new album under the direction of producer Clive Davis.
“Ahhh, I can tell you its gonna be better than its ever been,” said Franklin about her new project. “[Clive] is talking to the great writers now. We’re looking for the great songs. And we’re going to do it again one more time.”
